When Joey is not doing accounting work, he is working as a volunteer in the Disaster Services department of American Red Cross, where he assists victims of natural disasters. Currently, he serves as a duty officer, where he dispatches responders on scene when disasters arise in Northern California. Additionally, he performs other disaster response and disaster mitigation duties in Santa Cruz and Monterey counties, which include disaster recovery casework, community preparedness and mitigation initiatives, and on-site disaster response work such as immediate needs aid and shelter work. He has served as a volunteer at American Red Cross since June 2022. He also holds active certifications in Adult CPR/First Aid/AED and Basic Life Support.
In addition to his work at American Red Cross, Joey is also an active member of the Community Emergency Response Team ("CERT") Auxiliary of Santa Cruz County, where he serves as a a FEMA-certified disaster worker. He has served as an active CERT since September 2024.

On April 26, 2026, Joey ran the Big Sur International Marathon to raise money for disaster relief through American Red Cross. Over $2,000 was raised by kind donors as a result of the fundraiser.
